Many of us think for the welfare of the society however we procrastinate for doing good. Many of us believe that it will take a while for only one individual to create a difference, rather impact other people’s lives in the society. There are a few simple steps which can make an immediate difference to people’s lives this winter.

Share your warmth with the underprivileged people sleeping outside on the streets in this chilly season.

Donate your sweatshirt and show you care. Make an everlasting impact. This contribution will immediately make a difference to the lives of the needy and underprivileged people.

1. Door-To-Door Sweater Collection

During our school days, all of us would go door-to-door in our society and the adjoining areas for collecting donations for the blind, etc. The same approach can be applied for collecting sweaters or warm clothes for the poor people. I am sure people will not slam the door on your faces for this cause. Collect as many numbers of sweaters/ warm clothes throughout the week and leave your home at night and check for people sleeping on the streets without a proper blanket. We can distribute blankets and clothes to those who do not have warm clothes to survive this harsh weather, especially old people, and kids. This effort will cheer them up and make them feel warm and comfortable this winter.

2. Give Sweatshirts. Make a Fashion Statement

Design them all your old blankets, hoodies, mittens, sweaters and warm clothes. Wash those dusty sweatshirts and un-dull it by creating some artistic work on it. You could also get some embroidery or quilling work done on it. Arrange competitions this holiday wherein your loved ones will get creative and donate their creation for a noble cause. This will be a fun activity and simultaneously, encourage people to participate in large numbers for this social cause.

3. Sweaters in Exchange for Goodies

‘This is the season wherein we exchange a lot of gifts. Some gifts we like and some we disperse it. You receive a gift you don’t like, but you keep it anyway. Everybody is familiar with this and everybody has gone through this turmoil. This year, start the holidays by going through your closet to donate used clothes and unwanted gifts to a local orphanage. We are savvy of donating blood and organs then it is the right time to donate our sweat too. You could ask your cousins and friends to get their old unused sweaters, and in return, you could give them attractive goodies. This will not only entice them but also encourage them to support this cause. Give extra brownie (points) to the ones helping you with blankets and winter caps.

4. Tie up with an NGO

After the holidays, you can do a second round of donations by associating yourself with an NGO. You can donate any unwanted gifts, as well as old clothes and products to the orphanage or NGO, especially for blind people. Many of the NGOs pick up your collection from your place for free. You can collect all these clothes and things from your friends and family, neighborhood people to donate it to underprivileged individuals and contribute to the society.

5. Wall of Kindness

Choose one of the busiest junctions and with the help of the local authorities create a wall with a lot of hooks to hang clothes. Collect/ donate warm clothes and hang it up over there. The needy would come and take the one required. It will draw a lot of attention on a major junction. This practice can be used for unwanted clothes in general and not only warm clothes. I am sure you would get a lot of blessings from the needy to take on the New Year with new vigor. Procrastination is a crime and let us not be criminals for doing this social cause and so, ACT NOW!!!
