The International Day of Charity is celebrated annually on the 5th of September, the death anniversary of Mother Teresa, to create a common and global platform for all charity related activities conducted by individuals and organizations. Recognized by the United Nations as a day to promote and spread awareness about philanthropy and charity, this day serves as a reminder that it is our responsibility to support our fellow human beings and take them along with us on the path of development. This day also provides the opportunity to spread the message that you can participate in acts of charity even if you are not able to provide monetary donations to a cause, because charity requires the general spirit of compassion and does not necessarily refer to financial contributions.

Donate Your Sweat calls upon each and every individual around the globe to act on the charitable impulses that reside in every human being – to embark on the lifelong journey of giving.

Charity has no fixed definition and comes in different forms. Whether you devote your time for volunteering activities, donate your money or goods to the less fortunate, or spread awareness about a charitable cause, your every action can make a world of a difference to the people in need of a helping hand.

Many people make regular monetary contributions to various non-profit organisations. However, even if your budget constraints do not allow this, you can still participate in the celebrations of the International Day of Charity by signing up for volunteering.

Here are some of the ways in which you can participate in charity by dedicating your time and sweat to the following volunteering activities-

1. Support The Local NGO’s

Most NGO’s in the country are always in the need of active and enthusiastic volunteers to help them organize and run various programs. Contact the NGO’s in your locality and sign up for such a volunteering program to contribute to the causes that the NGO supports. If you have more hours at hand, you can also register yourself as a full-time volunteer or can choose to help out the NGO every weekend.

2. Help Out Your Four-Legged Friends

Do you have a love for animals? Most cities have animal shelters that require volunteers for walking and feeding the animals. Support these abandoned and ailing furry creatures on their path to recovery by assisting them in their daily routine. Help out the animal shelter workers with their chores and make the animals feel more loved and pampered until they find a permanent home.

3. Lend A Hand To The Senior Citizens

Are you aware of a senior citizen who needs assistance with his daily activities? The senior citizens who live alone may need help with minor household chores or may simply crave for some company over a cup of tea. Try to provide a lonely senior that you know some comfort and a pair of attentive ears, and help them lead a life that you would want for yourself in the future.

These are some of the ways in which you can make charity a part of your life even without donating money.

Sometimes kind words and devoted actions can be much more impacting than financial assistance.

Therefore, this International Day of Charity, do your bit to help the community, in any manner possible, to add some light to someone’s life.
